Creating handmade jewelry began for me several years ago with a small collection of faceted gemstones and some classes in geology and gemology. Utilizing genuine gemstone beads and precious metals, my designs are often dictated by the way the beads work together and evolve as I wire or string them into findings and chain. This jewelry is all about color and the combination of colors and textures.
My young daughters, each with a style of her own, soon began creating their own pieces too. It was because of their encouragement that Jansjems was started.
In 2009 Jansjems began a line of “steampunk” jewelry that was precipitated by some objects found in my childhood home. Jewelry made of upcycled found objects requires both craftsmanship and trial and error. All three of us took up the challenge and love creating visually pleasing, well balanced, wearable collages. This line of jewelry has become popular both for its beauty and its appeal as recycled art.
We have now also moved on metal clay--PMC & Bronze metal clay. This relatively new medium has allowed us to add unique fine silver focal pieces and findings as well as rings.
We are constantly learning and our jewelry is always evolving. Visit our shop often to see our latest designs.
